We designed a vision of the future that would radically reduce the number of hand-offs by creating a streamlined tool that helps Accenture be proactive about finding and onboarding talent, rather than reactive, reducing the number of days the process takes from 30 to 5.
In order to achieve our long-term vision, we redesigned the end-to-end process. This required taking Strategy and Sales into account, which are crucial pre-cursors to the Contractor Exchange.
Together, these improvements will be possible by seamlessly sharing data, introducing automation, surfacing real-time status, improving the user experience, and streamlining communication. Step 1: Reduce the number of roles involved in the process.
Step 2: Bring disparate systems into one tool, which seamlessly feeds data down the line and enables analytics for future forecasting and improvement. When designing the new process, we were confident that certain responsibilities in the old process would be eliminated when using the proposed tool. Remaining responsibilities could be consolidated into fewer roles, simplifying the amount of handoffs and knowledge share.
In addition, certain roles that were previously not considered part of the Cx process would now be included in the fold. We created a set of personas with situational stories and examples of their interactions with the Talent Marketplace, in order to illustrate how work for Accenture employees would look in the new Cx. A wireframe for a mobile app the Accenture contractors could use to easily track time and expenses, view payroll information, and stay in compliance. The other key change we felt would make a huge impact on the Cx process was to create a modern, fit-for-purpose software that would eliminate the need for the over 30 disparate tools currently in use.
We created feature sets, wireframes, and visual designs for key screens for each purposed role type. We integrated sales, project creation, and budgeting at the front end of the process to seamlessly feed into the talent finding portions of project creation.
We designed a platform that would modernize the talent fulfillment process from the initial sale, to budgeting, to role creation, to fulfillment, to onboarding, managing, and exiting. Since it was on one platform, there would be no more re-input of data or information falling through the cracks. Our streamlined approach reduces the best case scenario for getting a contractor from 25 days to 5.
This project was a massive research undertaking. It was amazing but overwhelming to talk to so many people, with so many different types of jobs, all over the world. I learned a lot about keeping things organized. I wrestled with my distaste for Excel. We made a lot of spreadsheets. One thing we wrestled with as a team was the fact that our recommendations would eliminate some job roles. We said people whose jobs were no longer needed, could be trained to do the new jobs we proposed.
If I had more time on the project I would have liked to make a more solid plan for retraining those employees. I also would have liked to do a more thorough design of the tool, our concept ideas were very high-level. As always it would have been great to test the designs with users, iterate, and refine.
